Historic relics from ancient times can be found everywhere in Merano. The well preserved historic town centre, the remains of the old town wall with three town gates (Bolzano Gate, Passiria Gate and Venosta Gate), or the old arbours, which connect the Duomo Square with the Grano Square, former market square of Merano.

Merano is also interesting from an artistic point of view. From ‘Merano Art’, a gallery and forum for meeting and discussing modern art, to the ‘Museion’ - a museum of modern art in Bolzano, to the European art biennal ‘Manifesta 7’.
